Blogging can certainly feel like an extreme sport and while a great form of therapy, can also be time-consuming and overwhelming. I am certainly not suggestion you stop producing consistent, quality content, but for days when it is all just too much…here are clever ways to repurpose your old stuff.
(Yes, I have been guilty of repurposing!)
5 Ways to Rock Recycled Content into Something New
Get that “MacGyver” resourcefulness ready!
1) Switch Up the Visuals
- Pictures
- Graphics
- Infographics
- Collages, and more…
One of the easiest ways to give older content a facelift is to switch up the visuals. You can go through some of your social sharing posts and see what graphics have performed the best. Use this powerful information to create new graphics to upload to your older posts and re-share!

2) Add Variety
Have a vlog post? Add a bulleted list with points from the video or some relevant quotes. Or vice versa! Turn a regular ol’ blog post into a video.
More ideas:
- Turn your post into a Q&A
- Turn your post into a Podcast and use SoundCloud
- Interview and expert to add a different perspective
- Add updated statistics
- Add a fun story
- Rewrite your summary and link to other valuable resources
3) Expand
You likely have many posts that contain a wealth of information, but could go further. Try expanding one or two posts into a whole series. This can be done with not only blog posts, but articles, Power Point presentations, even pictures. If you have a favorite album of your recent trip, why not turn it into a travel series or story about your favorite places!
4) Create a List Post
I don’t know if it’s their ease of readability, their promise of length, or what, but people love list posts. Take some of your best points from previous posts and turn them into a valuable list.

5) Target a Whole New Audience
Aside from creating new material out of old, like making a PDF out of your post for SlideShare, you can also target a totally new audience.
Maybe you wrote a blog post specifically for photographers, but it would be great for graphic designers too. You can use the tips we have already discussed (tweak, create a new visual, etc.) to target designers rather than photographers.
Use new hashtags and sharing campaigns, switch up you social networks of choice, and see where it leads. You could just reach a whole new group of people that will love and share your stuff!

I like the idea of trying a new font – one of these days I’ll need to actually try PicMonkey. *sigh*

Thanks for the comment Kim, PicMonkey is amazing. I actually love to use Canva and then upload that creation to PicMonkey for more edits. They are a wonderful combination for the design challenged, yet creation addict 🙂

I’ve never heard of Soundcloud, but it sounds like a great idea. Have you used this resource?? I’d love to hear from someone who used this to turn their posts into podcasts
lorihil says
Hope it helps you, Kim! I’m more of a visual person, so have not recorded my posts on audio. I write and vlog, but I have listened to SoundCloud from others and it seems to work great!
