One day in the not so distant past I found myself, coffee sitting in a mug on my desk, too cooled off to drink (don’t you hate when that happens?), scrolling through my Google Analytics. #BloggerLife
“What does my ImmenselySocial BFF need?”
And then I discovered it. Under the content tab, the most popular post. A tutorial I created on the DIY way to change your logo colors.
It was then that I knew…
This post must be updated!
It had to be updated because not only had people found that post quite helpful but there now exists an easier and more fabulous way to accomplish any color replacing task. With one of my favorite tools no less.
In that old post, while still effective, I had to use a combo of tools. Now we can accomplish the same thing inside one wonderful dashboard.
Rebranding? Need New Graphics?
Whether you want to do some rebranding work as I have recently done here, better show off your products or recipes, pets, and kids, or improve your photography with cool new backgrounds the BeFunky Replace Color Tool is where it’s at!
*BeFunky was kind enough to sponsor this post but opinions are definitely mine! I actually reached out to BeFunky to collaborate because I am so thrilled with this tool and many more of BeFunky’s features.
Just a heads up, you do need BeFunky Plus to make this happen but so worth it!
Color Replace for Logos, Avatars, Brand Graphics, and Product Images
Maybe you have a logo or avatar that you’re attached to but just not feeling the colors anymore or want to change the colors for certain pieces of content.
After all, I have changed my ImmenselySocial avatar multiple times as the blog has grown with me. Here is the previous example:
Upgrade your account to plus if you don’t have it already so you have all the features.
How Does The Replace Color Tool Work?
Let’s use this picture of a bright light on a colored background. This will stand out and make it easy for you to see the changes…
Head to BeFunky’s Photo Editor.
Upload Photo.
Select the Replace Color option and see what drastic differences we can create.
The Replace Color tool lets you replace any color in your photo whether something in the image or the background. Just click the color you want to change (in this case, our blue background) and select a new color to replace it with. Look at how drastic the difference is!
How to use the Replace Color Tool in BeFunky
Head to BeFunky.com Choose Create and Then Photo Editor.
Click Open and Upload your photo or logo.
Choose Edit on the left and then Replace Color.
We can then change the background color and the color of the light to whatever we want. Watch it all in action here:
Now let’s explore…
How to Replace Entire Backgrounds with the Replace Color Tool
Go from This:
To This:
and completely change the feel. Hello Whimsical!
Get your images ready. I got the image of the hot air balloons and the clouds from Unsplash.com
We will follow the same steps as before. Select the Replace Color Tool.
Once you’ve got the Replace Color tool menu open:
- Select the color tile next to Source Color.
- Click on the Eyedropper tool
- Then click on your image to select the main color of the sky.
You’ll see that the entire color spectrum that you clicked on (in this case, the blue/teal sky background) will become transparent.
Adjust the tolerance slider up and down as needed.
This time instead of going straight to target color, we will click the apply blue checkbox to keep the transparent background. And save the image as a png.
Pro Tip: A really quick way to upload this image to the Image Manager, while it’s still on the Photo Editor canvas, is to right-click the image and select “Save to Image Manager”
Now let’s add in our new background. Head to Image Manager. Upload the new image with the transparent background, if it’s not already in your Image Manager, and the new background image.
You can also find an image to use without ever having to leave BeFunky. Click the Search Stock Images button in the Image Manager to search over a million free stock photos!
Click the background image thumbnail and select “Set as Background” from the dropdown menu. Then click the transparent image thumbnail and select “Add as Layer” from the dropdown menu.
Double-click or drag and drop your transparent image to add it and then resize as needed by dragging corners. Click Options to flip the top image or change the blend mode.
When you are satisfied, you can flatten the layers so you can continue to edit as one image.
To make the image even better, I recommend checking out BeFunky’s awesome Artsy effects. For this image, I used Underpainting DLX under Digital Art and took it down to 30%.
I then went back to the edit tab and used the Vibrance tool.

Let’s take a look at the before and after again.
