This is your brain. Notice the chaos. This is your brain on a schedule. Ahh, creativity is born!
Watch this quick video and then we’ll dive into the depths…
How does Jack Dorsey manage two major companies simultaneously? With “Day Themes” of course! Now this is the kind of schedule idea that I can get on board with.
Jack’s trick in staying productive while putting in such long hours is to theme his days. Each weekday is dedicated to a particular area of the business at both companies. Here’s what his themed week looks like:
Monday: Management and running the company
Wednesday: Marketing and communications, growth
Thursday: Developers and partnerships
Friday: Company culture and recruiting
A General Breakdown of My Work Week
- Monday = Marketing
Promos, Facebook Group, Social Media
Scheduling posts using a combination of:
(Hootsuite is my affiliate link. You can grab a free account or upgrade. If you purchase an upgraded account through my link, I may receive compensation. This is at no extra cost to you and helps support Immensely Social.)
- Tuesday = Out and About
This is the day I run errands around town, schedule coffee dates, grocery shop, etc.
I do, however, keep the afternoon clear to complete hourly based client work.
- Wednesday = Writing
Focused solely upon writing all day. This is the day I get in the zone and get a lot of blogging done for my own sites and those of my clients.
I also tend to give out some Twitter support, especially for non-profits I have worked with on this day.
- Thursday = Evaluation
At this point in the week, I take a little time to evaluate and see where I am. What projects do I need completed and sent in before the weekend? I do some post syndication. Finish up writing projects and grab some nice links and freebies from around the web that I may want to share in the newsletter.
In case you are curious, my post syndication consists of social media shares, pinging, social bookmarking, and sometimes PDF submission. If you would like to see a quick tutorial process, let me know in the comments. I will work it into a Tip Tuesday video!
- Friday = David Blaine Like Location Switch Up
This is the day that I prefer to switch up my location and sometimes work from the cafe. Fridays are all about gathering links from my writing around the web during the week, completing any remaining projects, and scheduling weekend shares.
As mentioned, I do often work Sunday afternoons- putting post drafts in and sending out the newsletter. The rest of the weekend, I try (it’s hard and does not always happen) to give my eyes a break and spend time outside.
How do you make your freelance schedule work?
